Using the Blog Facility in myJournal
The purpose of this post is to concentrate on getting users used to writing a blog post at myJournal via two different ways, the main control panel, and myJournal Easy Admin. We will start with the main myJournal CP.
Using the myJournal Blog for Business
One of the main features of myJournal is the blogging system, we set this up for members to discuss and write about their products and services, whether you are a large corporate with many hundreds of employees, a SME with fifty employees, self-employed or a professional working alone then this system has been designed for ease of use and allows you to quickly write a blog post via two ways which I will expand on in the following points.
When joining myJournal you will receive a user name and password that allows you the member to log-in into the control panel. After you have configured your personal and company profile, you are ready to make your first post.
In the myJournal control panel click on the tab that says ‘Journal’
You will see a set of buttons that are there to assist you in writing your post; you can expand to see more buttons by clicking the Show/Hide ‘Kitchen Sink’ button here:
Each of the above buttons has a different function, adding media, images, video, formatting text etc. The key here is taking your time and only use the buttons as needed.
Start writing by creating a title for your post place this in the Title box. In the main box start writing your content. As with any good blog post it helps to add images or diagrams. The way to add an image is by clicking on Add Media
Pasting from Microsoft Word
Some users will opt for writing their articles in advance using Microsoft Word, if this is the case there are two solutions to ensuring that your content works in myJournal. The first and most simple option is to copy and paste from word into the Notepad application in Windows then copy and paste into myJournal, the reason or this is that when copying from word it carries the word styles over incorrectly. Another simple way is using the either the Paste as plain text option in your myJournal tools panel, or paste from word buttons here as pictured here:
When writing an article you may want to link to another post from another user or even to your own website page, you can do this by clicking the link button – it looks like a small chain link. When completing your post, read it over for any mistakes, spell check, and create a category for it by clicking the ‘add new category’ link at the bottom of the post.
Advanced Options – Excerpt – Meta Description
Fill in your meta description field – this should be a short paragraph from your blog post that describes what your post is about. This is the field that a search engine will pick up and display in search engine results pages (SERPS) it’s an important area for your posting and will show a visitor what your post subject matter is about.
Using Easy Admin
As the name suggest Easy Admin has been set up to make posting very easy and fast, it is a great solution if you are logging in from a handheld device, or simply want to make a fast post based on some observation or thought. The only drawback to Easy Admin is that you will not get all the features of the main control panel. This is alright though, as you can return to Easy Admin at a later to format the post.
Using Easy Admin is simple go to your blog page and click on ‘Write a new entry’
You are then given the expanded version of the easy admin write new entry box where and from it is self-explanatory including options with a link directly to the full writing panel.
I will cover the more advanced features in another post including using the write post buttons, writing a page, networks and other myJournal features.
