Viva Espana
Okay so last night I take one of my customers out to a new Spanish Tapas restaurant, Ole’ Tapas. Spainish wine is not the easiest wine to sell here in the First State. My friend is quite stellar with her wine knowledge so I was excited to see if I could surpise her with a wine that she has never had or heard about. The wine was a cabernet/merlot blend from the north/eastern region of Spain. The name I am ashamed to admit I don’t recall, but it’s not really important, what I do remember is the region Somontano. Most people think of Rioja when they think of wine from Spain, but Spain is full of diversity. This region being so close to France is influenced by this, hence cabernet and merlot grapes in this wine. Okay, if I can describe this wine with some justice, incredible aromatics, ripe lush, black and red fruits, sumptuous to describe in one word. The amazing thing, this wine complemented all the food we ordered, from the serrano ham to the griddled goat cheese with Jerezano sherry reduction sauce, to figs stuffed with spanish bleu cheese, wrapped in bacon. Spain is the fastest growing category in wine sales and I encourage all to try these food friendly wines. I will be giving simple information about these wines and the regions they come from over time. Please excuse typos as I am only a sales rep with strong opinions about wine. Cheers for now! Jen

I am sold Jen by your love of Spanish wines especially “sumptous” and to go with “serrano ham to the griddled goat cheese ” any particular one you would reccommend? Never really thought before about the proximity of the north/east to France and makes perfect sense that incredible things would be happening there…
