a tennis professional in the making

2010

Sunday, February 21st, 2010 - 11:10 am

I haven’t had much time to write anything since I came back from the States.

I played 4 tournaments and made it to the last 32 in all the main U 14’s events and won an under 16’s event.  I thought I played well but just couldn’t seem to get through to the last 16.  The competetion was world class of course and my coaches were able to see where I need to be going.  We all agreed that my movement and physical were the weakest areas as my game was able to match my opponents in the other areas.

Since January we have been working hard on my physical training which I enjoy a lot and working on the movement side of things which I don’t enjoy as much.

I am happy that my team has agreed that I should compete again now as I’ve been missing that, but I know that the next time I compete I will be stronger and hopefully moving better.

I am off to Israel in March for 2 Tennis Europe events one after the other – I am now in the U16’s so the competition will be harder so I’m looking forward to see how I do.

After Israel I’m off to Nepal to trek to Everst Base Camp with my mum.  I have decided to trek for Sport Relief and through my Dad’s contacts I’m going to work in an orphanage and give kids tennis lessons.  I’ve also been told that I will playing an exhibition match at the Nepalese Tennis Federation’s courts.

I have just arrived in Atlanta, Georgia where I’ll be attending a 10 day training camp before heading off to Bradenton Florida for the first of the 3 tournaments I’m here to compete in.
I was lucky enough to get straight into the main draw of the Eddie Herr Tournament.  This is the first one and [...]

Last Thursday I travelled to Glasgow, Scotland to play for England for the first time.  The tournament was called the Four Nations Championship.
Our first match was a doubles match and this was the only match I lost in the tournament.  We only just lost that match 10 7 in the third set match tie break.
My [...]

Road to Wimbledon Finals 2009

Monday, August 24th, 2009 - 9:19 pm no comments

Last week I played in the Road to Wimbledon Finals of 2009.
I won through the early rounds quite easily.  My semi-final was interrupted by rain when the score was one set all, one game all and I was serving at 30 – 15.  The match was delayed by about 3 hours and when we [...]

Bournemouth Open 2009

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009 - 10:02 am no comments

I have competed in the Bournemouth Open since I was 9.  The event is played in my home town and is held in the club where I first began playing.  I have since left that club to find much better programs elsewhere for performance players like myself.
I remember making the under 10’s finals back in [...]

Runner up at the Tennis Europe Event in Edinburgh

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009 - 12:50 pm no comments

The week before this event I had competed in a Tennis Europe event in Slovenia.  It was an under 16’s event and I was to use it as a  warm up event to the Clay Court summer season in the UK.
It wasn’t a spectacular tournament for me as I was knocked out in the second [...]
