20th Anniversary of the World Wide Web
Today, 13 March, CERN is marking the 20th anniversary of a document by Tim Berners Lee entitled, “Information Management : a Proposal” describing what would become the World Wide Web. Here is the overview http://info.cern.ch/www20/
Tim Berners Lee’s boss at the time of this document was Mike Sendell who wrote on the proposal “Vague, but exciting” http://info.cern.ch/Proposal.html
The CERN site provides history and links to a w3.org page with a schedule for today’s events http://www.w3.org/2009/03/CERNweb20th.html Tim Berners Lee will give a keynote speech by webcast.
The web in reality is still very much at the beginning and though it seems everything goes fast very quickly given the nature of the web there is still a long way to go and much more to come under the leadership of the W3C.
