Bruges, the most histroric city in the world!

Bruges welcomes you time and time again

Bruges is a medieval town that never really changed its historic appearance since the year 1302. This was the year of the for Flanders very important ‘Guldensporenslag’. When you are wandering around in the city and its small curling alleys, you breath and experience the middle ages over and over again. You certainly wouldn’t look very surprised if a few medieval knights in shining armor would appear around the corner. Every person who loves this time period should go and visit Bruges as soon as possible. Bruges is a city who actually managed to fight the French kings many times and one of the biggest victories against the royal army of France was the famous ‘Guldensporenslag’ in 1302 when Bruges won a heroic battle in Flanders Fields against the far superior forces and mounted knights of the French, using their knowledge of the region and using superior tactics. Although the famous victory was only a short one because not even three years later the French olbliviated the army of Bruges. The statue on the Grand Place of ‘Jan Breidel’ and ‘Pieter de Coninck’ in the shadows of the magnificent belfry still remind of these heroic times as they were decapitated on that spot for standing up to the french.

If you ever plan to visit the city of Bruges one should spend as much time and nights in Bruges as possible in the romantic Bruges hotels. The big variety of hotels in bruges is actually almost unbelievable. Some hotels Bruges are located in very old medieval houses completely renovated but keeping the traditional look, for example in the hotel Relais Bourgondisch Cruyse you can truly sleep like a medieval prince or princess. This particular hotel Brugge is housed in a mansion who has one of the oldest façades in Bruges, completely in wood. This will certainly add to your stay in this magnificent city.

The city of Bruges is vividly alive during every season of the year. Most European cities are not so much fun to visit during the winter but Bruges is certainly an exception and very beatiful to visit during wintertime. The christmas period in Bruges is an absolute must-see, the magnificent decorations and Christmas lights bring Bruges alive a way you never seen before. If you are very lucky and there is a strong cold winter in Bruges Belgium you might even be one of the few lucky people to walk on the Canals of Bruges. This will allow you to view the city in a whole other daylight, it will take you places you never visited before. Too bad that this doesn’t happen every year. There are a few hotels in Brugge located along these canals and these hotels are the ‘crème de la crème’ in Bruges to spend the night.
